Be cool, don't pass out!

A note from David: Today we have a very special treat, a guest blog from none other than DavidMeade.com regular, Audra!

Quote:
Anyway, I wanted to share my “gym” story from today. So I met with my trainer again today, and if you remember my last encounter with him, it was pretty scary. I could not stand up for very long after he had me do the squats and lunges. The rest of the training session was a blur. So this time I thought, damn it, I am going to do much better. I work out on a regular basis…..what is wrong with me…..I can do this!

The session starts off with me jumping rope. Okay….I don’t know about you, but I have not jumped rope since I was a kid and much much lighter. So as a kid, you could go FOREVER! He had me do 3 sessions of 1 minute each nonstop. MY GOD, that 1 minute felt like 20. I kept tripping up on the rope, then he kept counting down (which wasn’t helping), because when he would say 45 seconds left, in my head it felt like it should only be 10 seconds left. WHEW……I survived the rope.

Next onto boxing. He has me put on some boxing gloves and hit these pads that he holds, also not very cool with this one. I guess I just don’t see myself as very coordinated or something, but I feel silly doing this. Plus there are all these other people around doing their thing, and I am boxing (not well I might add). OKAY….2nd thing down.

Then……..the dreaded squats and lunges AGAIN! Started off okay (at least this time my legs weren’t shaking as much), but after about the 3rd set, I could not stop sweating. I mean it was literally dripping down – YUCK!. Started getting a little light headed, but DAMN IT, I CAN DO THIS! So I push through the rest of the sets, when low and behold, we start walking to a different section of the gym to start to work out my arms. Things start becoming a little blurry and white, and I am perspiring like you can’t believe. All I keep thinking is….don’t pass out, be cool, don’t pass out, be cool! I make it to the other section and try to be cool about sitting down for a minute and drinking some water…..when all of a sudden, I think he must have seen how pale I was. He said are you okay? I said, yeah I’m fine, just a little light headed. He said that is due to SOB…….I’m like WHAT????? He says SOB……shortness of breath. Yeah, no shit Sherlock – I can’t breath!

But I am determined to not let this get the best of me, so I persevere and continue on. However, this time when he is showing me new things that I can do, and the proper form, I am not paying as much attention to what he is saying……because in my head I keep thinking, don’t pass out, be cool, don’t pass out, be cool. I keep looking at him like I am really concentrating on what he is showing me, but I am really concentrating on staying ALIVE!

Needless to say, I survived the training session…..and now I am scared for Friday…….because it starts all over again. HELP ME JESUS!

Lunch Hour #1

Avaliable Formats: [Stream (m3u)] [mp3]

Welcome to the first entry of a new DavidMeade.com feature: The DavidMeade.com Lunch Hour! This entry is largly a test to see if I could do it … and I think it worked pretty well.

Because this was my first ever audio blog and was learning how to use my new toys this was posted rather late. Sorry about that. Crying or Very sad

I hope to do these audio blogs several times a week if not every day as I can record them while at lunch and then just upload them to the site real quick. Normally you should see these posted by no later than 2pm central time.

Since this entry went fairly well I’ll try to record my more interesting thoughts next time. Very Happy

Recovery

Well, last night was Audra’s Cinco De Mayo party. Yes, we were a few days late, but it was worth the wait.

As usual the food was great, the margaritas were masterfully made, and a good time was had by all. I decided not to bring the video camera to the party, although I wish I had.

Sal showed up in an authentic Mexican poncho … now that’s the kind of commitment that I should have had on tape. Razz

This morning I was pretty good and hung over. I’m feeling more like a human being again and now have to try and be productive today. I actually have a very large list of things I need to get done … if I manage to do one of them I’ll be surprised.

I suppose the first step would be to stop blogging and start workin’ on that list of things to do … so ….

Thanks for another awesome party, Audra!

That ship has sailed …

Well, just a quick update before I turn in tonight …

I hope you all had a great Cinco De Mayo. For some of us the party is yet to take place. Audra is hosting her anual fiesta this Saturday. I think I may take my video camera along Twisted Evil .

In other news … It turns out that I cannot take the filmmaker’s cruise that I wanted to because it only happens once a year and this year’s is already sold out. Crying or Very sad

But I’m still going to look into one of the ‘regular’ classes (probably either in California or Florida) and then if I like it … try for the cruise thing next summer.

I actually have a few pretty cool ideas for things I want to try and film, but more on that in a later blog (…or vlog).

And …. action!

So I’ve been thinking more about this week long course in filmmaking through the New York Film Academy (NYFA). I’m obviously not a filmmaker, and have no real aspirations of being one … but neither should anyone banking on a one week course.

The one week course according to the NYFA is just an introduction, and for some an ‘escape vacation’ doing something completely different.

They say by the end of the week you will have written, directed, filmed, produced, and edited an entire project. Exclamation To me, this sounds like alot of fun.

So anyway, I was thinking about this and … see .. there are a few options for anyone who wanted to do this. They have these one week courses all over the world really so you’d have to choose where … but there is also this one week cruise course.

I had pretty much decided that IF I were to do this, the cruise was just too much money to spend on a week doing something I may suck at … but then I got to thinking …

The cruise has “room and board” included. The others don’t. And a few of the other classes even say things like “* Students may spend up to $1000 additional for film and processing ” … the cruise information doesn’t say that.

Now, the week long classes are supposed to include all materials, equipment and fees – so that $1,000 probably doesn’t apply … but, given potential hidden costs of film processing and the certain additional costs for living / eating in New York (or other large city) for a week … the cruise might just be a real bargain!

What do you suppose a week in New York would cost a person to live/eat/travel etc. I mean I would have to be near the NYFA, have to travel to and from each day, eat, etc …
