feature roll back

You may have read recently that davidmeade.com had new features to make your user submissions easier to use.

This is still true, but I have altered the feature. Finding and formatting URLs automatically is actually pretty tricky. It gets even worse when you want to allow people to inlude HTML as they wish.

So…davidmeade.com user submission forms will not parse for URLs. It will however continue to change your line breaks into HTML <BR> tags.

In the meantime I will work on a more advanced “HTMLize” function, and will re-offer the full featured forms at a later date.

The Palm OS?!

So we’ve all seen those online quizes that tell you what kind of fruit you are, or what type of tree (in case such things have ever kept you up at night). And, Doug even had a very popular blog about what type of assult weapon one might be.

Well…I just took one that told me what OS I am. My results are listed below. Go take the test yourself and post your results in the comments for this blog! (the site will give you the HTML to display your results…you can copy/paste that if you want)

My results:

Which OS are You?

davidmeade.com is easier to use!

I’ve upgraded davidmeade.com to be more user friendly for you…the users!

Now, when you enter text into one of my forms (for example the guest book or a blog comment) it will automatically format your text and any URLs your enter. So, for example if you type www.davidmeade.com it will save that string as a link. And if you hit the enter key 3 times like this:

it will insert the required HTML to ensure your message appears in the same format.

Simple change (kinda) but it makes all the difference. Check it out by signing the guestbook!

Well it's finally happened.

Well, today was the day. I missed my stop on the L on the way to work because I was reading.

This time the doors were completely closed before I’d noticed. For a second, I considered trying to force them open…but like good law abiding citizen that I am I just got off at the next stop and hopped on the next train back.

I know I promised a good blog in exchange for your visiting Doug and Kevin’s site, and although this should count technically, I will try to blog yet again today.

yes…I am that boring

I know I haven’t blogged in nearly a week, but the sad truth is I just haven’t had anything worth blogging.

I’ll make you all a deal…

Go and view Doug’s comic strip(s) and then view Kevin’s (get the links just below my comic in the News section)… then come back and view mine. In return, I will promise to blog something worth reading on Friday. In the meantime you can keep yourself busy with the comics.

The Dangers of reading

So I was on the train this morning – heading to work – reading my book (“Blackwood Farm” by Anne Rice) when I vaguely hear: “This is Argyle”. Shortly afterward came the announcement “Doors Closing”. It was several seconds after this that I looked up from my book and realized … Argyle is my stop.

So — in a brilliant impersonation of a special ed student during a non-scheduled fire drill — I BOLT for the closing doors.

Thankfully – although my book bag was open, falling, and carried along precariously by only a zipper tab, and although my book was in a continuous lateral pass from one arm to the other – I made it out of the L car before the doors closed on me. And even more thankfully there was a platform based billboard behind which I could hide from anyone who had witnessed this.

Once I had my book back in my bag – and the bag properly sealed … (and once the train full of witnesses had left, and the others who got off at this stop were well on their way down the stairs) … I continued on to the office.

where to begin…

a hard day’s night

Today is a hard day. And like most hard days it has a good night behind it.

Last night I went to The Wrightwood Tap with the folks from the new office. They all reinforced my first impression – they are all really cool people. It was a good time…and a late evening.

Now, I don’t get bad hang overs usually – it’s a gift. (I expect this to change in the years to come as I used to never get them at all) But I woke up this morning at about 6:30 and couldn’t move – despite a desperate need for water and excedrin – until about 7:30.

I spent most of the morning thinking things like “maybe if I move slower my eyes will hurt less”. In fact I didn’t put in my contacts until I got into work. This – as it turns out – is quite a trick. See…I’m blind as a bat…and my glasses are broke. (I call them “the ghetto glasses” – they only have one temple.) So I couldn’t wear my glasses out in public. I stumbled to the L – blind -, listened for my stop, and found my way to my office – smiling at everyone I passed because I coudnt see them well enough to know if I should recognize them or not.

I’m feeling nearly human again now, but I’m about to go in search of water and excedrin again. Small price to pay I guess for a good night on the town.

And on the 7th day, David created email.

In a developing story, I should be able to check davidmeade.com email at work soon (sometime later today). I was going crazy there for a while. But fear not, I am once again as connected as I ever was (or at least I’m hours from being so).

same bat time same bat channel

Keep your eyes on davidmeade.com, I’m planning on updating the News soon…and I think today may be a double header in BLOGs (maybe).

NOTE: I don’t have a BLOG spell checker installed on this computer. (And – for those of you who don’t know – I’m the worst speller since the dawn of man) So please remeber that correct spelling and grammar are implied here at davidmeade.com
