Hmm not having much luck with that. I can select US English … but thats already checked. I *think* whats happening is it’s using a US English mapping on an ISO style kayboard … but I dont have the ISO European keyboard … I just clicked that by mistake.
I can type in English ok (or well … as well as my proficiency with the language allows) … but some keys dont work (delete, end, home, etc etc )
There must be a way to get the “select keyboard type” button back on the keyboard control panel window.

Did you check Apple / About this Mac / More Info
That will give you information on all the system settings. I don\’t believe you can make any changes in this area but if you get to the area about keyboards it may provide you with clues on what has happened.
