It’s Videoblogging Week 2007! The week where all sorts of people all over the world crank out one new video every single day … just to do it. Witness the maddness at MeFeedia.

  • This is nice. It\’s kind of you to share your kiosk – though that\’s Second Life culture. I\’ll be stopping by next time I\’m in the world.

  • David, great post. Love it. The big question for me is how can we make it more portable, allow more people to use it… can other people see exactly what you’re seeing?

I love that it actually has channels. Can you include any channels you want?

I’d love to see it become easier to use with all manner of vlogs… and integrate better with mefeedia.

In many ways second life fulfills much of early vision and promise of VRML.

  • You can actually watch any feed you want. You can tell the in world object to load up any rss feed that has quicktime friendly enclosures.

In this video I pointed to to davidmeade.com, but you can point it at any feed.

You can also give it a command to point to a given tag. It then grabs the mefeedia rss feed for that tag.

Without the lil’ in world object gadget anyone on your parcel of land would see exactly the same thing … whatever feed you’ve pointed at. With the kiosk gadget they have the ability to change their channel and so they might be watching something else.

Haven’t seen VRML in a while! :-) Second Life keeps saying they’re going to start supporting dynamic content better (web pages and such). I always wish that it were easier to get land in Second Life … maybe some sort of distributed world or ‘instances’ … but yeah the ability to craft your part of the world as you see fit is very cool.

  • Hi Dave,

Nice video screen and demo! Do you offer the screen somewhere for sale (or rather as freebee :) )? Very interested in this technique!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Marcel

  • Right. That’s decided me. Gotta get me some second life.
    Very cool.
(by the way, your comments approval software is horrible. keeps rejecting me. i’m determined to prevail!)

  • Hi Dave,

Grabbed the script (thanks!) but how do I create a screen and have your tool play video? Warning: I am a newbie in scripting.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Marcel
